Collaborative Action Workshops: Farm to Trash—Disrupting the Food Waste Epidemic
This fall, PYXERA Global has directed its focus on widening the conversation on the solvable problems identified at the Global Engagement Forum Live this past April. One of these solvable problems includes reducing food loss. At this year’s Net Impact Conference, Friday from 4:30P.M.- 6P.M. EDT, Laura Asiala and Kelsey Figone of PYXERA Global will facilitate an interactive workshop on food loss and waste reduction titled, “Farm to Trash: Disrupting the Food Waste Epidemic.” During this session, participants can expect to develop a strong understanding of the sources of food loss and waste and how innovative strategies can offer both individual and systematic waste diversion. Panel participants MGM Resorts, Savannah College of Art and Design, Goodr Food Rescue, and Walmart will give examples as to how they have worked in their own opperations to reduce food waste. Through collaborative action, this workshop will propose solutions to the food loss paradox in our agricultural system.
“The food loss and waste paradox exists because even though one in seven Americans is food insecure, as a nation and a global community we are still wasting 40% of our food, additionally nearly half of fruits and vegetables are lost post-harvest, during production in less industrialized countries,” points out PYXERA Global CEO, Deirdre White. PYXERA Global will further the conversation with a follow up food loss publication and Twitter Chat Wednesday, November 8th The Twitter chat will draw on cross-sector expertise of leaders in the food loss challenge areas.
How to Create Purpose-Driven Brands
The question is no longer if companies will become purposeful, but when. In addition, to the workshop on food loss, PYXERA Global’s Daniel Elliott will participate in a panel discussion on corporate impact titled, “How to Create Purpose-Driven Brands” from 3:20 P.M. – 4:20 P.M. EDT. This panel will include leaders in corporate social responsibility such as 3M, Campbell Soup Co, and Carol Cone ON PURPOSE. During this session, they will address major concerns regarding how companies can authentically embed purpose into operations and sustain it. PYXERA Global will participate to give insight on 3M Impact, a new global pro bono program where 3Mers are immersed in communities for two-weeks to collaborate on some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The panel will share how they create programs like 3M Impact to reflect their organizational values.
