Tom has been working for over 20 years in the international development and volunteerism sector. Currently, he is Acting Director and Chief of Operations of Peace Corps Response, a Peace Corps program that sends experienced professionals to undertake short-term, targeted development assignments in communities around the world. Since the program was established in 1996, over 3,000 Peace Corps Response Volunteers have served in more than 80 countries.
Previous to his current position, Tom held senior leadership positions overseas with Peace Corps and other international development organizations. Most recently, he was the Director of Programming and Training (DPT) for Peace Corps Ukraine, where he managed the programming and training of Peace Corps’ largest program in the world. Prior to Ukraine, Tom was Acting Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party on municipal reform and decentralization projects with the Urban Institute in Tajikistan. Tom also worked on training and exchange programs in Washington DC and on a volunteer housing construction program in Guatemala. He holds a M. Sc. in Development Management from American University’s School of International Service.
