Ecosystem Stewardship

Why Ecosystem Stewardship Matters

Lasting change doesn’t come from a single project or partner. It grows from relationships, shared priorities, and the everyday work of coordinating across sectors. That’s what we mean by ecosystem stewardship: creating the conditions—trust, culture, clear roles—that allow progress to last.

Why Pyxera Global

For more than 35 years, we’ve worked in over 110 countries helping partners move from commitment to action. Our role is not to own the outcome, but to navigate complexity and translate across sectors so solutions are durable, community-rooted, and scalable.

  • We know how to align business targets, public priorities, and community needs.

  • We build the trust and governance that keep coalitions moving.

  • We connect capital to context so investments strengthen—not sideline—local value chains.

  • We steward the story so policymakers, funders, and companies pull in the same direction.

That combination—system navigator + strategic translator + trust builder—is what makes Pyxera Global different.

What We Do

  • Convene the right table → bring together the people who need to collaborate, locally and nationally.

  • Align goals and language → translate between business targets, public priorities, and community needs.

  • Design practical paths → map where change is possible and shape concepts to test.

  • Steward the narrative → tell the story clearly so partners, funders, and policymakers pull in the same direction.

  • Mind the trust → build norms that protect relationships and honor community time.

  • Connect capital to context → channel investment into locally led work with transparent governance.

Our Efforts

What it is
The Circular Supply Chain Coalition (CSCC), led and convened by Pyxera Global, helps global supply chains prioritize local value chains. By integrating community stewardship, material reuse, risk mitigation, and resilience, CSCC is building a more equitable and circular economy.

Launched in 2019 with a focus on reduce/reuse strategies in structurally excluded communities, the CSCC pivoted in 2021 to critical minerals and materials with commoditized value. This shift was formalized in 2023 and tested through a Tennessee pilot on e-waste collection, repair, and reuse with support from FedEx.

Why it matters
Global supply chains face mounting pressure from climate risks, material shortages, and community mistrust. Circular approaches—recovery, repair, reuse, and remanufacturing—cut costs, reduce waste, and create jobs that keep value closer to home. FedEx’s catalytic role in the coalition helped prove that circular systems can scale when anchored in community priorities.

Our role

  • Backbone coordination and coalition design

  • Convening governing, ecosystem, and regional partners

  • Piloting repair, reuse, and recovery projects with community groups and companies

  • Publishing white papers and convenings to shape the field

  • Connecting investment opportunities to inclusive, community-rooted models

Current focus

  • Critical materials recovery and reverse logistics

  • Repair and reuse networks

  • Workforce and small business participation

  • Expanding pilot projects that align circularity with equity

What’s next

  • Launching two regional accelerators in North America (Rocky Mountain and Southeast) using a hub-and-spoke model

  • Assessing financial investment opportunities in Europe

  • Building an Insider Group for companies investing in critical mineral reverse supplies

  • Finalizing a governance and financial model centered on community stewardship

  • Creating replicable pathways for circular investment and inclusive infrastructure

What it is
A global initiative launched in 2024 that helps communities shape how AI, data, and digital infrastructure are built, governed, and shared.

Why it matters
AI and digital infrastructure are expanding fast—often without safeguards for equity or consent. Without action, these shifts risk deepening inequality. P4DJ works to redirect power, redesign policy, and restore knowledge so digital systems are inclusive by design.

Our role

  • Convening global institutions, local innovators, and frontline communities

  • Translating between emerging tech, governance, and lived experience

  • Supporting co-created pilots for equity in digital transitions

  • Elevating narratives of justice in digital change

Current focus

  • Generative AI and climate displacement

  • Indigenous data sovereignty and consent

  • Community-led infrastructure for resilience

What’s next
An open-source toolkit to help communities safeguard what matters most. It will:

  • Catalog cultural and knowledge assets

  • Preserve those needing protection

  • Guide communities on what to digitize, share, or keep within trusted circles

We are also seeking multi-year partners to:

  • Pilot and scale the Toolkit

  • Train communities in preservation and protection frameworks

  • Tailor approaches to local contexts

  • Share best practices globally

What it is
A coalition helping cities build circular, community-rooted solutions—so materials, money, and opportunity circulate locally rather than being extracted.

Why it matters
Cities are on the front lines of climate risk, waste, and inequality. Circular approaches reduce emissions, cut costs, and keep value in neighborhoods.

Our role

  • Convening and roadmap facilitation

  • Embedding community stewardship from day one

  • Aligning policy and procurement

  • Storytelling that builds durable buy-in

Current focus

  • Neighborhood-scale pilots that expand citywide

  • Public–private–community partnerships with clear accountability

  • Data and learning loops to inform policy and investment

Move from Commitment to Action

Ecosystem stewardship ensures that commitments don’t stall—they translate into measurable results: reducing risk, strengthening operations, and building resilience where it matters most.

Pyxera Global helps partners navigate complexity, align incentives, and protect trust so progress moves forward instead of getting stuck. Through advisory support, pilot design, and coalition leadership, we create practical pathways that deliver value for companies and communities alike.
