AI is transforming industries at an unprecedented pace. But as AI reshapes how we work and solve problems, there’s a critical gap: 76% of nonprofits don’t have an AI strategy, and 43% of social impact professionals say their organizations lack the resources to explore how AI can be used.
While large corporations have dedicated resources (human and financial) to experiment, implement, and scale AI solutions, nonprofits often have to solve the same kind of complex, systemic challenges, but with a fraction of the budget and staff.
Nonprofits do however possess something corporations need: deep community knowledge, trust, and mission-driven expertise. The question we should be asking is whether they have access to the capacity support needed to integrate AI in ways that align with their values and amplify their impact.
Skills-based volunteering (SBV) through AI for Impact creates pathways for corporate professionals who understand AI systems and nonprofit leaders who understand community needs to collaborate. Together, they can co-design solutions that are shaped by both technical expertise and on-the-ground reality.
Skills-Based Volunteering for AI
Pyxera Global has 35 years of experience in SBV. Several of our current programs have supported nonprofits by integrating AI into their programs, including the following two case studies:
SAP and Frontier Markets
Through the SAP Global Social Sabbatical, SAP employees collaborated with Frontier Markets, a social enterprise based in Jaipur, India, to explore how AI could strengthen the Meri Saheli platform, a women-led rural commerce solution that helps women entrepreneurs run their businesses in their communities.
The SAP team—employees across sales, project management, and strategy—met with the Frontier Markets leadership team to understand the organization’s operational challenges, digital systems, and strategic priorities. They also met with the entrepreneurs using the platform from their villages to gain further insight into how the Meri Saheli platform can work better for them.
Together, the SAP and Frontier Markets team identified several opportunities to integrate AI into their operations. The result? A strategic AI roadmap designed to empower 100,000+ rural women entrepreneurs to grow their incomes, businesses, and communities.
“The SAP Social Sabbatical gave us an actionable AI strategy that would help Frontier Markets streamline key stakeholder-facing journeys,” shared Amrit Mohan, CXO, Frontier Markets. “With these deliverables, we can now launch new features, optimize operations, and deliver faster, more relevant, and personalized support at scale.”
Dell Technologies and 100 Black Men of the Bay Area
100 Black Men of the Bay Area needed more time. As a nonprofit advancing the social, economic, health, and educational progress of African Americans, their team was spending hours on grant writing, creating donor specific engagement strategies, and content creation.
Through Dell Technologies’ Pro Bono Consulting Workshop, 100 Black Men of the Bay Area spent two days virtually collaborating with a Dell team to create an AI-enabled framework that would significantly reduce time and resources spent on content creation, enabling their team to focus more on serving the community.
Together, they built a system that:
- Automated donor outreach
- Streamlined grant application processes
- Tailored social media content for different audiences
“The AI framework revolutionized our approach to fundraising and community engagement and began our journey on implementing AI to help us in additional areas such as membership engagement and mentee programming,” said Keith Robertson, COO, 100 Black Men of the Bay Area. “We’ve increased our grant applications by 200% while improving quality. We also are able to maintain a personal touch with our donors. The time savings allow us to focus more on our core mission of mentorship and community development.”
