Alexandra van der Ploeg
Corporate Social Responsibility, SAP

In today’s globally integrated economy the most successful leaders are global citizens who understand and effectively collaborate with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.

In 2012 PYXERA Global worked with SAP to design and implement the pilot SAP Social Sabbatical, a unique, short-term assignment for the company’s high potential employees. Social Sabbatical participants work in international, cross-functional teams to solve business challenges for entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises in emerging markets. Participants get the unique opportunity to turn SAP’s vision of “helping the world run better and improving people’s lives” into their personal reality.

By focusing SAP talent, technology, and capital on education and entrepreneurship, the program strives to enact social change through economic growth, job creation, innovation, and community development. The Social Sabbatical began with 30 participants in three countries. The program was designed to rapidly scale and has since sent an additional 1,250 participants to another 49 countries.
