Allan has been a leader of technology-enabled businesses characterized by large-scale multi-product, multi-channel, and multi-geography product and service delivery in regulated business environments. Within these environments, his specialty has been to step into IT and Operations roles that were created for the first time or required repairs to distressed client, business, or public relationships.
Currently, he is an independent director of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) US Group Holdings, LLC, a $165B financial holding company, City National Bank, a $90B regional bank, and RBC Bank (GA), a $6B specialty bank serving Canadians in the US. He is also an executive coach for senior IT leaders.
Previously, Connecticut’s Lt. Governor Wyman asked Allan to establish Connecticut’s Health Information Exchange (conniect.org). Prior to this turn in public service, Allan served as SVP & Chief Information Officer (CIO) at John Hancock Financial Services with oversight of the company’s technical teams. He has also held CIO and operations roles at AIG Consumer Finance Group and Bank of America Commercial Finance. Allan started his career at GE, where he held several leadership positions in the USA and Japan for GE Capital’s global consumer finance business.
Allan’s personal passion is learning and talent development, with a particular emphasis on women’s empowerment. Professionally, he’s created and led development programs spanning entry-level to senior levels, including specialized programs for military officers. In the community, he has a long track record of hands-on board leadership of buildOn and Common Impact, nonprofits focused on building skills and mentorship.
As a mentor in Northeastern University’s Master of Science in Strategic Technology Leadership and Columbia University’s Master of Science in Technology Management program, Allan’s students, all women leaders, have a track record of professional advancement and high impact accomplishment. He is also a mentor in Ouellette and Associate’s TechXL and CyberXL leadership development programs for mid-career IT leaders. He has been a lecturer at Sacred Heart University, University of New Haven, SUNY Levin Institute and others.
Allan graduated from Colgate University. He holds CISM and CRISC certifications and was named a Computerworld Premier 100 CIO.
